The Revell 1/125th scale Type VIIb Uboat kit,
A maximum underwater speed of 4 knots
HULL The Hull and deck comes together as five parts. Pictured here assembled, with a lot of rough filler around the seams.
The bridge deck with moveable periscopes The conning tower with moveable periscopes While the hull putty was setting, I moved ahead and started assembling the conning tower.
The fit of the bridge deck into the tower was rough.
A few gaps had to be filled.
A large lug had to be removed from the inside left of the tower as well.
dust from sanding, over the rudders and dive planes gap here
Dive planes, rudders and the propellers go on next.
There were a few places that need filling, as well as several sink holes in some of the parts.
The sink holes are a recurring feature of this kit.
raw unpainted plastic uboat Humbrol 87 and 79 with spots of 145 Railings, 3.5 inch gun and other attachments go on.
The fits were no problem for most of the parts.
Then a coat of paint made it look a lot better. All that is needed now is the rigging and a few rust streaks.
Cotton rigging Rigging is made from cotton.
A few more additions are required to make the rigging look more like the real rigging.
Drainage holes were filled in with a black drawing pen. They can also be drilled out if you want an authentic appearance.
Cotton rigging - Plasticine added.
I went through several options for making blocks on the rigging, but in the end I used plasticine to make them.

Finally I gave it a coat of Microflat, to even out the paint work. It made some of the ink in the drainage holes fluid again.
A few spots, streaks of rust and the model is completed.

The Submarine type VIIb
Uboat type VIIB

I haven't spotted this kit in the most recent Revell catalogues.
But Revell have recently released a 1/72 scale kit of the VIIc U boat.
